Your Guide to 4x4 Lift Kits

If you’re not sure whether or not you should look into 4x4 lift kits to lift your ride, there are some good reasons why you may want to give your 4x4 a lift.

First of all, you can give yourself more ground clearance when you are in an off road environment. Many 4x4s sustain damage because they are too close to the ground when traveling along rough terrain.

Another reason why you may want to lift your 4x4 is because you do get a better view of the road ahead of you. The only con to this is that you may not see the smaller things on the road.

The third reason is that you want to make a style statement. People have been “tricking their trucks” for quite some time and 4x4 lift kits are just another way to go about that.

Finding the right kit

Finding the right kit may be the easy part. Simply state your budget, how high you want to be off the ground, and what sort of look you are going for. Your purpose will also play a role. For example, you may be looking for a superlift lift kit. If it is to gain clearance just for off roading, this may narrow down your search.

The hard part of finding the right kit is the possible modifications that may need to be made to your 4x4 after the lift kit is installed. You will most likely need larger tires to accommodate your new space. Your steering may need some work in the form of having to lengthen your drive shaft. Your brake lines may also need to be lengthened. The best way to get through this is speak with a mechanic so that you’re not caught off guard when you need to make modifications.

What to consider

There are some things you will need to consider when looking at 4x4 lift kits. Consider the weight of your truck, your clearance, the handling of your vehicle, how you are going to install the lift kit (yourself or professionally), and any accessories you may need because of your newfound height. When you take everything into consideration, you shouldn’t have too many surprises.
