Swiss Gear Tents

Background on Swiss Gear Tents

Swiss Gear is a division of Wenger, the company that’s been making the famous Swiss Army Knife for more than 100 years, so you know there’s a history of quality outdoor gear at this company.   While its product line includes sleeping bags, canopies, and even aluminum hiking poles, it also offers several tents ranging from tiny backpacking shelters to family-sized cabins. Read on for more information about a few of these reasonably priced Swiss Gear tents.
Eiger Hiker Tent
This is a really lightweight, no-frills backpacking shelter for one or two people, although the 7x5-foot base makes it a cozy squeeze for two adults. The polyester taffeta floor has an extra-thick polyurethane coating to keep water out, while the walls have a lighter layer for water resistance plus breathability. The permanently attached rain fly folds up to allow ventilation in dry weather. This Swiss Gear tent’s 5-pound weight and its easy setup with shock-corded fiberglass frame make it a good choice for hikers. Inside, there’s a gear loft, a shoe pocket, and even an E-port for electrical cord access when you’re closer to civilization.
Kanderstag Backpack Tent
The Kanderstag backpack tent is one of the medium-sized Swiss Gear tents. It’s designed to sleep four campers in its 57-square-foot space and bay windows at either end of the 9.5x9-foot floor add a bit of shoulder room. The polyester taffeta fabric is coated with polyurethane for water resistance, while a special hoop in the fly frame protects the doorway from rain. The tent weighs 11.2 pounds with aluminum stakes and shock-corded fiberglass frame included. Extra features include a shoe pocket, gear loft and E-port for electrical cords.
Valais Family Dome Tent
A 14x11-foot base, 6-foot height, and a capacity of seven sleepers make this one of the largest of the Swiss Gear tents. It features the SwissGuard weather protection system on the polyester taffeta fabric, large side windows with awnings and an easy-to-set-up fiberglass frame. For organization and comfort there are pockets for shoes and other small items, a gear loft, and an attached mud mat outside the door.
